ESL is a common abbreviation for "English as a Second Language." Tutors will often use the term ESL when describing those programs that educate students who are not native English speakers and to represent the ESL students themselves. An ESL program is verbal and written coursework designed to help students looking to learn English as their second, third, or in some cases, fourth language. These programs are structured to encourage and support students who wish to develop their English speaking, writing, reading, and listening skills.
Treetops provides one-to-one English tuition and small group training in all language areas and across all backgrounds in a supportive, practical, and enjoyable learning environment. Our program is accessible to youth and adults, focusing on each individual, their learning needs, and their ability level. Treetops can help you with speaking, listening, pronunciation, vocabulary, accent reduction, writing, academic English, grammar, business and workplace English, conversational English, school student programs, general and educational support, reading, and more.

It is up to you how often you have English tutoring lessons. Some students have classes once or twice a week; others have intensive lessons. It depends on your particular language needs and availability. English tutoring lessons are at least 1.5 hours long for you to achieve the best learning outcomes. As with any language-based learning program, the amount of time it takes to develop a skill depends on the individual students learning requirements and the frequency with which they can understand.
As a guide, it is suggested that working toward mastering English as a second language, a student should dedicate 20-40 hours to emerging, 40-60 hours to developing, 60-80 hours to consolidating, and 80-100 hours to reaching and confident, competent level or verbal, social and literate English language skills.
